As stated in the title I have a used genuine 3DR APM 2.6 I purchased used. Previous owner states they were able to connect to a Win 7 machine and see the APM in the device manager as well as connect in MP (insure what version).

When I connect the APM to my Win XP, 8, and 8.1 machines I get the same message on all three. "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

I can see it listed in the device manager as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".

I tried updating drivers through device manager but Windows tells me I have the best driver installed. I then went out to the FTDI site and downloaded the latest drivers and tried to manually point to the newly downloaded directory with the same result.

I have checked the 3.3 V regulator and it is good (3.33 VDC).

I have disabled the need for digitally signed drivers through also, just in case.

I have tried different USB cables.

Here's what I do have...

When I plug the board into my USB 2.0 or 3.0 port I get the Windows sound, a green "Alive" LED, and a blinking A & C LED (Blue & Red) followed by a steady pulse-pulse, pulse-pulse, C LED (Red).

I spoke to the previous owner and he said he was able to connect to a Mac and a Win 7 machine with a little tweaking. He is also willing to test the board after I send it to him if it comes to that. Really hoping to get this to work though.

I am able to perform basic measurements using a fluke multimeter...

I can upload video/pics, just tell me what you need to see.

ANY input would be welcome....

  • It was the cable. A third cable turned out to be the charm.
