APM 2.6 with dual compass??

Gents,

just received a brand new APM 2.6 from Lipoly.de with a sticker which says 2.6 and the 3 DR GPS/compass.

This APM 2.6 has a working compass on the board?? How comes?

When I connect the external GPS/compass, it makes somewhat a mix out of both heading sensors.

Is there a possibility to stop the internal compass without voiding the warranty and is not a big hammer?

If there is an easy solution please let me know, otherwise I have to send it back tommorow.

many thxs

Wolfgang

  • There may just be a misunderstanding...the accelerometer can function as a "compass" by detecting yaw movement..

I have a APM 2.6 but no gps or external compass, and also get compass movement...

If i power on the apm and connect via telem, whatever direction the apm is facing will be set as 359 or 0 degrees, and the compass heading changes when the apm is turned.

If i set down the apm at any other heading and press reset, when it reconnects to mission planner the new heading is now 359 or 0 degrees...

But the accelerometer is so awesome that i believe if the apm was powered on while lined up with a real due north heading, the heading would hold true

  • Hi Wolfgang,

APM 2.6 does not have an on board compass, you need to use the combined remote compass and GPS module.

No need to send it back!

    Regards

    Martin.
