APM 2 won't take power from rail

I recieved my new APM 2.0  a few days ago. I tested the board, then installed it in my existing Gaui 330x quad. All was good to the point that firmware and config. was done, ESCs successively armed. I even did a spin up of the motors and all was well. But right after that one successful run up (without props of course) I can now only power the APM thru the usb connection, it no longer recognizes power from the quad's lipo battery, nor will it power the ESCs. My wiring is all according to the Manual. Everything seems fine still other than that. I reloaded the firmware and reconfigured and tested my wiring. Please tell me what to do next. Thanks, Al Lowrie

  • Mmmm... my APM2 seems to have just suffered from the same problem, although I wasn't plugging anything in new or even flying it!... it just died. Removing the jumper and powering from input rail and USB powers it up fine...

    So... 2 questions...

    • Will 3DR repair?
    • Can you just run a +/- from the output to input rail? rather than using a separate BEC or splitting ESC BEC cables?

    Al,

It looks like your JP1 jumper is in place (thank you for the proactive photo, that saves us time.)

I cannot tell from the photo, but how many of the ESC power leads are connected? Just one, or all of them? You only need/want one.

My best guess about the problem, have a look at http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/problem-with-apm2-powering-up-my-...

Two issues are described. One has to do with voltages above 5.0, that may cause problems. The other is pulling too much current through the board and blowing diode D1. You may be able to test D1 to see if it works.

See something like http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_3/chpt_3/2.html and with a steady hand and an unpowered APM2, you might be able to test it. I haven't tried, let us know if you need help figuring it out.
