APM V1.4 revision/missing SMD component?

I just received my APM V1.4, and noticed an unpopulated set of SMD pads in the PG5 trace (circled in yellow below).  The images of the V1.4 board in the store do not show these pads.

Is this a revision?  Should these pads be populated?3690862450?profile=original

  • I did a continuity check with the voltmeter and my grounds are connected but the 5v's are not. Could this be because of the missing component? My board looks exactly like the one in the picture above. Can someone please post a link to the schematic for v1.4?
  • Sam,

Thanks for the clarification.  Is it ok to add R8 to the board if I wanted to monitor the status of the MUX?

  • Hi Guys. R8 was added to fix a current drain issue and as far as I know, leaving that line open without the resistor does not affect the correct operation of the board (although I guess this would depend on the code, but currently there are no problems). Also, v1.4 boards that do not have the R8 pads were modified to fix the same current drain issue by removing pin 1 on the AT1280, this was less noticeable but not a very elegant solution.

  • Martin,

I guess I'm not alone!  I believe the missing component is a 1k resistor, labeled R8 on the V1.41 schematic.  The trace in question is the multiplexer selection line, so I'm pretty confident the resistor is required for proper operation.

    Hi Billy,

That's a very good question, I was looking to answer it by looking at the stock I have, all was going well until I found I have both types of board, some have the pads and others don't, so I'm also interested in why the pads are there on some and not others. Both the boards with and without the pads are marked v1.4 and have come from DIYD in the past 2 weeks.

    Regards

    Martin
