Hello, I have APM2.5 with gps and 915 telemetry radio. I can set the modes,pid,calibrate radio... Essentially i can do every thing but upload a new firmware by usb or radio. keeps saying can connect to detect board version or port is closed. Have looked for several days for a solution. Surely there is a genius out there that can help me find the silly thing that i have overlooked.

Arduflyer board? I have one of those clones and is required to unplug telemetry to upload firmware.
Are you disconnecting the 3dr radio when hooking up the USB cable? The documentation indicates they use the same UART, so it is very possible that they would interfere with each other if they are both hooked up at the same time. AFAIK you can't upgrade the firmware over the radio link, it must be connected via USB.
have you tried compiling and uploading the FW with arduino -- found in the downloads section of the wiki?
