APM2 PID FRUSTRATION? READ ME!

I can't get this quad tuned if my life depended on it and need help.  I know I am not the only one. Apparently there are several books written on PID tuning, thats great, but I am so busy replacing props trtyng to tune that I can't do this anymore. I need a decent start point.  I have read what seems like an encyclopedia on PIDS.

 Sound familiar?

I want to start what DIY seems to have started but never finished.  POST YOUR PIDS settings files here.

When I look on the settings page for "Configuration files for common airframes" I find 1 model THE ARDU COPTOR!  http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_Configfiles

I loaded this to get back to original PIDS, and it flies like well lets just say twitchy as hell and and wobbles like a quarter.  I need a good start point to fine tune. Anyone out there please load your files with a decent description of your multi copter setup.

I am running

 550 frame vic 20 frame

1020 motors

18amp esc

9x 5 x3 blade or 10 x 4.5 2 blades

2650 battery and 5000 battery

I am flying mostly stable FPV flights Can anyone start by posting your config files for stable flight?  Ill take what I can get because the standard default won't fly well on my quad.

Maybe my frustration will spur a good out come.

  • I am having an issue with getting power to motors now. Any suggestions, see my write up here-->

  • Great I really appreciate the help, I should say I max is new to me, busting in from the quadrino world.  I am not dumb, but I have crammed a very large amount of information into my head over the last three monhs while waiting for my APM2, I just started truly understanding quadrino's PIDS when I jumped to APM2.

I must admit I think I am having issues outside PID but I know it isn't frame related, other than mounting, but thats my problem I can't tell annymore :(.  Frame straight, no MAJOR CRASHES (almost).

I also seemed to have a glitchy vibration/sensor interaction in the way I mounted the board, and the patch this friday is supposed to help this.  I remounted the board and it seemed a bit better, but just general flight characteristics are terrible, one minute it feels sluggish and slightly unresponsive, I am having another issue now that I think found a workaround on, I am posting in a different place, somehow I blew out a pwr diode on the motors side. I took one of the cut pwr from the esc and ran the power to the radio side and it is now powering the board.  Another issue that is frustrating me at the moment.

Ill post a link to other problem here maybe you can help.  I love the APM2 but right now I am out of the honeymoon phase and into the long term commitment this is taking me:).

  • Thanks I will try tomorrow, I have had mysterious diode power issues now to the motor side of the board.  I had to run power from esc to radio side then jumper power to the motor side.  Another issue. And now my Usb will barely connect, i have to bend cord to left to connect, tried 2 cords, same issue. UGGGG. Sometime I hate being on the cutting edge:).

Is the Apm2 so new there just isn't any files for settings  yet?  Coudln't find any starting points to load...  And there are all these new Imax settings. Too many settings...  Sometime KISSS is the right philsophy :)

I completely understand your frustration. It is a bit of a difficult process to tune PIDs. If you have a video of your quad flying and a screen shot of your PID settings I will be able to give you some direction.
