ArdoPilot Mega with non arducopter?

Question guys, is the arducopter board only usable with arducopter firmware or will it work also with say the UAVP-NG firmware? trying to look at what my hardware/software options are... i mean i think their both ardruino based right????

If not are any firmwares other than ardupilot work on the ardu imu board.

    Have you already invested in the NG stuff?

    ArduMega is used mainly as an autopilot. Arducopter uses ardumega with a different code to fly quad copters.
