I am build a new 3DR copter and am having some trouble/questions connecting the RC electronics.
I have a new Spektrum DX8 radio and AR8000 receiver. I have connected the APM to the receiver using 6 - 3 wire connectors.
With the latest version of Mission planner I can connect, update firmwar, and see real-time GPS and other sensor activity.
I do not however see any radio input. The receiver has been bound to the radio, and the bind light is solid.
I have attached a picture. I do not have the custom cable mentioned on the wiki - but it seems to suggest this way will work also.
Do I have something wired wrong? Backwards? Any ideas?

Have you binded the radio to the receiver while plugged into the APM ? It will not work if you bound to the receiver without the APM. See this thread http://www.diydrones.com/forum/topics/spektrum-dx8-and-ar8000?xg_so...
How are you testing radio input? Just moving the throttle, or via MP->Configuration-> Settings -> Radio? or via CLI test->radio?
Do you have the APM powered from the servo rail, or only via USB?
