Hi All,I've asked this question on the Aircraft platforms thread and got no response. So thought this would be a better place to try. Sorry about repeating.I've been looking at various commercially available Quad platforms for a while now and trying to decide which one to go for. According to my requirements, I've narrowed things down to1.) Arducopter - about 1000$ for RTF kit2.) AscTec Auto pilot - About 4000$ for RTF kitBy looking at the functionality and hardware, I don't see a big difference in the two options, but the cost difference makes me wonder.. I might be wrong. Appreciate if anyone can provide a quick list of differences between the two platforms, that can explain the cost diff..cheersDinuka

I have built 3 Mikrokopter units and all are impressive I started with an Okto 2, then a Hexa Xl and now the Hexa XL brain into a Droidworx AD-6HLE frame with a photohigher pro mount this is reaaly impressive.
The Asctec system of Falcon 8 is really impressive but it has a big price tag and as Thomas B states you cant modify the software.
Mikrokopter I thought was going to be a challenge with the language barrier but it really wasn't and from I have learnt alot of German lol. I am truly amazed by what a Mikrokopter can do, lift huge weight, stable flight, loads of fun and now follow me!!
ArduCopter sounds like a really cool bit of kit from what I have been reading this morning and a very good price.
AscTec is a company which has developers, production and support in one house.
ArduCopter is a community Project. These are two different concepts.
The ArduCopter community is very agile, but if you want a central support point for hardware and software and maybe for desired development improvements AscTec maybe is the better solution.
I don't claim that they have the better Product, but for wanted commercial use they may be the suitable partner.
$4000 is cheap for an asctec.Up to now I heard about a price around $10.000-$15.000 for a platform which can beat the abilities of an arducopter.
I don't know too much about the ArduCopter, I have seen the Asctec kit in the flesh and was really blown away with how small light weight it is I have also had the opportunity to fly some of the Asctec kit, it was very impressive.
Stable in flight easy to use and returning good flight times, but it is an expensive option I am currently flying 3 different Mikrokopter units and love the fact that they are so flexible you have the ability to alter your settings to suit your own style and from what I understand similar to the ArduCopter kit.
