ArduCopterNG vs ArduCopterMega

Ok I understand that ArduPirates SuperStable is a branch if ArduCopteNG but I just noticed ArduCopterMega in the SVN repo

Can some one please outline the diff between NG and Mega, and the roadmap ahead.

It looks to me that the Mega is similar to the ArduPilotMega code

I'm not sure which code to use.

  • I have a similar question as I have seen so many different names for each code base:

    • ArduPirates' SuperStable Code
    • ArduCopter RC1
    • ArducopterNG now called ArduPiratesNG Code
    • ArduPirates NG versions will be released as official ArduCopter releases.
    • Original ArducopterNG also porting code to ACM (Arducopter Mega)

What's the difference between the above, and what is the roadmap ahead?

Will the final product be ACM or ArdupiratesNG?

I'm new to DIY drones multicopters and would like some guidance here.

    Cheers

As you've noticed ArduCopterMega (aka ACM) is the next version of the code.  It's based on the ArduPilotMega code (i.e. the plane code) but has many important elements of ArduCopterNG blended in.  The aim is to get more of the UAV type features in the next version.  There should also be a new ground station.

For the moment you should stick with the ArducopterNG code.  ACM is still in testing and at any point in time it might not work perfectly.
