Arduimu on glow engine plane

Hi there,

In the near future I intend to install Arduimu (together with Ardushield V2 and Ardupilot) in a glow engine powered plane. It is a 1.7 meter wingspan plane with a 12.25 cc glow engine.

Has anybody tried to use Arduimu on a glow engine powered plane?

Are there any problems with the vibrations from the glow engine?

If yes, are there any special settings/precautions that you can advise me to take?

I will install the Arduimu as far away as possible from the glow engine, on a foam pad.

Thanks!

I have not used it on a glow powered airframe, but I have experienced vibration issues. On a parkflyer sized electric airframe with a badly balanced prop I experienced roll and pitch errors of up to 30 degrees.

There are not really any settings you can change to avoid this problem. My best advise would be to set up either telemetry or onboard logging set up so that you can observe or record some data. Do some manual flying with the system running and see if the pitch and roll from ArduIMU are deviating from the actual values. Perform this testing at ALL throttle settings that you will be using. It is common for vibration issues to involve resonant frequencies, so you don't want to find out later that some throttle setting you didn't test is causing a problem.

There are lots of mounting schemes people use to deal with vibration. A search of the site will turn up many.
