I have not understood the behavior of the function that activates the engine during auto takeoff. In my case after hand launched the model, just above the threshold speed the engine will start automatically.
I read that someone however the engine starts just switches the mode to auto (which is correct for a takeoff from the ground on the wheels).
I think it's a question of how to configure the starting waypoint.
Can anyone help me?

Agreed, the auto takeoff and landing features for ArduPlane are still vaguely explained and/or working at best.
