Hi all,

So I am running in to a problem getting my hexacopter off the ground.  All motors ramp up correctly, however, when it starts to reach the line between sitting on the ground and being airborne.  The back motors will speed up and start to flip the hexa.

Any ideas as to why this is happening.  I have uploaded the firmware to the APM a second time and calibrated all speed controllers.

I am thinking that the problem is one of on three things:

1. Center of Gravity issue,  the back motors are speeding up to compensate for more weight (the copter is a little back heavy)

2. Hardware malfuntion (non APM related)

3. APM malfunction

  • I wouldnt be surprised if the back and front were switched or something similar. The back props cause the back to lift, so the APM thinks it needs to level out and increases power to the front but its really powering the back hence the cycle which causes the flip.

Just to be sure, without increasing the throttle too much, try and increase the ail or elev and verify the correct side lifts.

Seen this a hundred times. Any flipping is usualy an indication that one or motor inputs are connected to the incorrect APM output, or PDB plug. Please re-check your wiring.

Another possibility is incorrect motor rotation or prop direction, check that again too.

COG issues will cause the copter to drift, not flip.
