better landing gear for arducopter from 3dr

Hi Guys,

has anyone thought of a better landing gear for the arducopter, as i just broke mine and 3dr are out of stock. it was easier when i brake a propeller and just run to the store and pick up 8. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

also i recently started using 3dr products and for being in u.s.(san diego) i am really dissapointed. First i oder their frame and the send me the wrong connector and missing a nylon spacer. then i order a apm 2.5 fully assembled early last week and pay for overnight shipping (i'm a bit impatient) and i email customer support today because it is still processing, they tell me that the telemetry set is on backorder and to keep checking the online store for avalibility, after i already paid. maybe they should make it unavaliable untill they get all the necessary parts. just a thought.

  • Did someone try this ?

  • Yep, same happened to me... The fiberglass is relatively brittle but it's better to break that than the center frame.

My fix for now was to buy 1" wide aluminum stock from Lowes/Home depot (thinnest they had... 1/8" I think), drill matching holes (need to angle stock so it's wide enough to span both bolts), and replace all six legs.

I didn't mess with the nylon spacers to add stiffness.

Survived a dead drop from ~40ft up into a grass field. Bent the heck out of the aluminum legs but otherwise no damage... And legs bent right back for further flying. The aluminum bending absorbed lots of force.

Once I get more confident/dialed in I'll prob go back to the fiberglass legs.
