Building an quadcopter

Hi all,
this is my first post on this forum: I just registered after having seen some cool videos around.
I'm a web developer by day, the maintainer of a pretty popular (at least in the .NET world) opensource project. But lately I'm starting to play around with Arduino.
What I would like to do is building a quadcopter and helping out developing the code that makes it fly :)

I had a look at (some) of the 96 pages of comments of the original announcement and the google code project site, but I haven't understood which is the status of the project:

is the feature list on http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/ the list of features available with the current version of the code? Or are they the features that will be available in the final release?
If the former, which of them are available and at which point of the roadmap is the development?

Then, speaking about the frame. I read that you are building a kit: is it available already or can I try building something myself, following the instructions on google code for the hw + sw part and the ones on http://www.aeroquad.com/content.php?115 for building the frame?

I'd really help with the development of the navigation, but first I have to build a working version of it :)

Thank you
Simone

  • I am new to DIYDRONES myself. I am a programmer/instructor but have been in RC for 30 or so years. I want to build a Quadcopter also. Where did you find some of your information about the quad? Was it on this site?
  • Ciao Simone,
Good to see you have another equal interest as mine :-)
I am in a similar situation like you: waiting for the frame to come out to start with it.
If you want to start soon, you can already go for all the electronic part.

[ot] for other uses: you might ave found on the web there is also a netduino board you can program in c#

The status is that the airframe will be released in a week or so, and the code by the end of the month. The autopilot is the standard ArduPilotMega and IMU shield, which is already out. Once those products are released the home pages will be updated with standard product info, but right now it's in the hands of the testers.
