Can a Rangefinder be used in Auto mode ?

Hi Guys, I plan on setting up a rangefinder to maintain constant low flight missions. I'm unsure however in which flight modes it will actually work in. I'm using the latest plane firmware on a Pixhawk.

Does anyone have  experience with RangeFinders and low flight missions ?

Thanks

Nick

  • Hello Andrew.

    I am trying to  use range finder with my plane.

    Is it possible to use the range finder with the last firm?

    I would like to control the flight height over ground during at least 300m before landing.

    Thanks a lot.

    @Nicholas,

    In the fixed wing code the rangefinder is only used for landing and for logging and ground station display. In the upcoming copter release the rangefinder can also be used for lidar based terrain following. Both the plane and copter code support terrain following using a global terrain database.

    We plan on adding support for terrain following using a Lidar to the plane code (for more than just landings that is), but it won't make it into the 3.7.0 release.

    Cheers, Tridge

  • Thanks for the quick replies guys!

    Yeah I've been using the Terrain following with the GTB, and wondered if we had Lidar support as I am flying quite low.

    If I can help in any way at all just give me a shout.

    Thanks again guys.

  • @Nick - I know that Tridge is the expert on ArduPlane and he has done lots of tests with the SF11/C laser rangefinder from LightWare. If you can't get a hold of him directly you can try the Ardupilot forum.
