Can APM Copter and APM Plane be combined?

Building a VTOL, wondering whether the VTOL plane can utilize both APM copter technology when it is in the copter mode and switch to APM plane when in plane mode. I'd like to do it in fluid way.

Do I need an intermediary technology to serve as switch from one mode to the other? Perhaps use Arduino for that purpose? Or, is this functionality already built into the APM Copter or APM Plane technology?

  • Hi,

BTW, have a look at Multiwii. It is much much simpler to hack around with than APM. Especially after they kicked out Arduino (you will find there are C++ and .ino sources of almost the same soft - C++ in "shared" directory. The C++ is active and the .ino is scheduled for removal).

It doesn't have the advanced/fancy features that APM does - but who needed it for just determining if a new design will fly?

  • You will need to develop that. Of course you can snip parts from both Arduplane and Copter. The libraries part is common for both already and you can reuse that as is.
