Hello there,

i am currently evaluating the pros and cons of replacing an Autoquad (AQ) FC with a Pixhawk FC in a existing AQ-quadrocopter system (FC, ESC, etc.). The reason for this is the unavailability of the AQ FC, since they stopped the production of the used model, and Pixhawk seems to offer more (just an opinion, feel free to correct me here).

The only problem when changing the FC is the CAN communication between the FC and the ESCs. The Pixhawk uses UAVCAN and the AQ ESCs use their own closed source CAN-protocol. Does anyone have experience on this specific combination and wouldn't mind to share it?

So far, my plan for a test-copter was to extract the AQ-protocol from the AQ FC (which is open source) and write an adapter on the Pixhawk side (which is open source and supports custom firmeware). Does anyone have a better approach or any tips? Or, even better, already did that?

Thanks for helping!

Note: Exchanging the ESCs is atm not an option.

Note 2: Since i'm collecting pros and cons, i'd love to get some feedback from anyone who changed their FC from AQ to Pixhawk.
