So I've been fighting with my new 3dr apm2.5 to get it to connect via usb it connected one time and i updated mp from 1.2.27 t 1.2.28 via a new load and usb keeps saying comport 3 does not exist. i tried a fresh load on a second computer and same thing. having a pare of linked 3dr radios from my aiop pro set up i connected it and sure enuf i can connect via the radio on com 4 i can see everything from the gps to the compass. so i tried to do a firmware update to my new fire wheelquad and i get a can not identify apm error ? so is a apm only able to connect for firmware via usb? and what is up with the usb?

When you connect the USB cable, does the board power up? If so, the wiring from the PC to the APM is probably fine.
I recommend looking over THIS thread (again if you have before).
I do not think the APM firmware can be updated via 3DR radio. That is not a listed feature.
HERE is more information (to read) on the 3DR radios. The 3DR radio firmware is also updated via Mission Planner.
