Can the Pixhawk with Plane use data from a sonar sensor ?

This is mostly about the sensor presented here:

http://plane.ardupilot.com/wiki/common-rangefinder-maxbotix-analog/From what I gathered, this sensor helps multi-rotors maintain precise altitude control but is there any use for this in Plane like landing?

I don't know that sonar is not supported per se but I do know that LIDAR is preferred/recommended for fixed wing landings.
