Can't test IMU

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me.

I added the code per http://code.google.com/p/ardupilot/wiki/Test

then compiled and uploaded the code

#define DEBUG_SUBSYSTEM 6

I go to the console and type "test". I get many options when I type "help", but not IMU.

I try it in debug and fly modes, but I can't find a way to test the IMU.

Using HappyKillmore I see no data using the USB.

When I switch from manual to stabalize I get no movement of the servo's and the motor stops. I can switch back to manual OK.

How do I even know the IMU is working?

Thanks in advance.

Mick

  • Another thing I found confusing is that I uploaded the MavLink firmware and when I go in to GCS Mavlink in the GS it doesn't show the orientation in the controls. All instrument controls remain in default positions.

I also couldn't get any of the ground stations to respond to movements nor orientations.

I'm just using the USB connector.

Am I missing something here as well?

  • Hi Chris,

    Thanks, that's working now.

I think that to make it clearer it would be good to put some very simple instructions in with the Ardupilot when it's purchased. Just a one page printout with link and which options to select to upload would clear things up a lot.

Or when using the ground station to make the upload firmware options a little clearer (maybe say Flight Mode and SImulation Mode or X-plane Mode in the options text).

Sorry about my confusion. I thought that selecting the only available option with the MavLink (which I confused with MediaTek GPS ability) with HIL was the correct option.

  • I was originally looking at the right manual.

I did a search for testing the IMU. That's how I found that link.
When I type test and ? I don't get the IMU or gyros option in the list.

    This is what I get

    Init ArduPilotMega 2.0

    Entering interactive setup mode...

If using the Arduino Serial Monitor, ensure Line Ending is set to Carriage Return.
Type 'help' to list commands, 'exit' to leave a submenu.
Visit the 'setup' menu for first-time configuration.

Move the slide switch and reset to FLY.

  • I have the latest Ardupilot Mega 2 with Sheild. I just bought it from DIYDrones, per the site with APM2.1 firmware.

    http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/ardupilot-mega-home-page

The pin assignments on the orginal test code are different.

Does anyone know where I can find the current version of this code.

Or how I can test the Gyro positions?

Or what I might do to make this code or alternate code work?

Anything to test that the Sheild IMU chips are working I guess.

I read somewhere I can test with ArduPilotMega1.02 and Happy Killmore, but I get a compile error with 1.02.

  • 3D Robotics

Are you confusing the original ArduPilot board with APM?

    Which one do you have?

  • I found this, and that seems to be what I'm looking for.
