I would love someone to break down for me just how I would go about changing the criteria for arming and disarming the APM 2.0 in it's software.
I would like to use APM input channel 6 which I have routed to the "Gear" switch on my TH9X to simply arm/disarm without having to throttle/pitch full down and rudder full left/right.The TH9X will not transmit until all switches are in their default (back) positions on power up, so if disarm is the default gear switch position safety is still covered.
The reason is that I would not only like to arm/disarm while in flight, but also not have to have a setting in which I am giving my heli a full down collective pitch command. I set up all my radio's to never give a negative pitch command at bottom stick, that way if in a bit of a panic I do not accidentally fly my god awe-full expensive toy straight into a dirt nap :-) 0' pitch is at the bottom as i don't fly inverted anyway, and I like to have the heli hover near mid stick.
My current method of arming/disarming is to set TH9X's flight mode switch to ID2 with a full pitch travel curve and use it only on the ground without the motor spinning, but NOR and ID1 have identical pitch curves (0 to +12 degrees) with different throttle trims (0%, 50%) to actuate the flight modes of the APM. A click too far while in flight (-12degrees to +12degrees) could be hair raising!
I use a governed ESC and the throttle cut switch on an aux channel to control the ESC without being ran through the APM.
I know it's confusing to understand exactly how I am utilizing the channels of the radio but maybe this will help?
TH9X receiver / APM inputs
Ch1(ail) / Ch1 (ail)
Ch2(ele) / Ch2 (ele)
Ch3 (thr) / Ch5 (flight mode)
Ch4(rud) / Ch4 (rud)
Ch5(gyr) / Ch7 (gotta figure out how to use this to control yaw gain, different thread)
Ch6(pit) / Ch3 (thr)
Ch7(aux-throttle cut to ESC)
Ch8(gear) / Ch6 (want to make this arm/disarm APM)

Doing this would not be straight forward in the code at all. Why do you want to disarm in-flight?
I can't see any reason why you would set things up such that you cannot use full negative pitch on the ground. I'd hazard an opinion and say that if that causes you problems, then something isn't right.
Edit: got 6 and 7 mixed up... Switch arm/disarm on 7, yaw gain on 6 :-)
