Cold Weather Operation of Arducopter

I am lucky and have only flown my arducopter in sunny San Diego.  I will have a chance to use during a winter vactaion soon.  I want to gain piloting experience in the the cold, windy and low visability conditions.

Has anyone done much flyin in the cold?  Do I need a battery warmer (Lipo lose power when cold)?

Any suggestions or experience would help me prep.

Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

Like all batteries Lipos are a little less "powerful" when used in the cold, you could add some form of "heat" pack to the battery, however the Lipos do heat up in operation so a "jacket" would keep the heat in and save on weight!

I would recommend that you let the copter sit in the cold for a few min's before connecting the battery and starting the flight, as there will be a shift in the sensors coming from a nice warm room to the cold out doors, apart from that bring the quad back in to the warm you might find that there is condensation forming on the cold parts, so put it in a bag (plastic) close it so it's air tight and let it warm up for 20 mins or so to stop that from happening!

    Regards
