Compass direction

Hi

I have have APM2.0 and sometimes when its windy he cant hold magnet course and change direction and stays there. I can get it back but its not very handy when I fly far from me and cant really see the direction. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I did calibration by book and I can make gps hold and it only seems to happen when its windy or when I put more weight on like camera total weight with camera is around 1kg without 400g.

Sounds like you are getting electrical interface. The reason you see it when it's windy or when you add weight is becuase the motors have to run a bit faster. Try moving your APM away from your electrical wires. It does not have to be much, maybe just a cm will do.

Randy has a way to test this, see below:
You'll likely be able to perform a test like this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es0ADszvOEQ) in which I rev up the motors and check the effect on the compass heading as displayed in the HUD.
  • It seems that if I force to turn the quadrocopter while it still on ground then he first tries to correct that but after some seconds that will become the new "position". Im I doing something wrong it havent been like this before.
