Component Configuration

I have noticed that several posts discussing different capabilities seem to use the same pin locations on the main board (e.g. ArduPilot Shield and wireless telemetery).If a configuration utilizes the ArduPilot Shield can the system still support wireless telemetery? If so, how is the wireless telemetery incorporated since the pins are occupied by the Shield?

    It's simple. The pins are mirrored on the shield. I've circled the where the Xbee connects in this picture:
