Damaged winding, motor still runs?

Hi everyone,

I slipped when tightening the prop bolt on one of my nice shiny (expensive!) T-Motors and the hex driver went into the windings. You can see from the image below that at least one of the wires is definitely severed, and others could have had their coating stripped:

I was surprised, however, that the motor still runs and seems to be delivering full power, which I'm very confused about. I would have thought it should be dead or jittering like mad.

Any ideas? How is it that it is tolerant to having a winding motor severed like that?

And... anyone sadistic folks out there who like rewinding motors, for a small fee? ;)

  • Ah, yes - pulling back the insulation from the 3 motor cables it looks like about 8 small copper wires feed into each of the 3 motor power cables.

So I guess it is probably developing less power, just not enough to notice when I run it up on the bench? Is there a chance it could fritz out mid-flight? I'm guessing 'maybe' - if I did damage other wires too, which could short them together, right?

To handle a higher current they probably have two or more wires in parallel per stator arm.
