3dr video kit with fatshark googles

I ordered the 3dr video kit, I am having alot of issues with the video. I can get it to play thru the video kit onto my Mission Planner. I noticed the OSD board gets hot. When I try to connect thru my fat shark googles( as recommended by the instructions for this kit) which are also 5.8 GHz I have the wosrt video no matter what channel I have on. I have to be within 2 feet of the video transmitter and dead on to it. At best the video is extremely full of static and all I can see is a shadow of the image. I have contacted 3Drobotics by phone, but they just told me that they do not support fat shark products and theydo not sell googles of their own. That I should just email the help desk and look on DIYdrones. Any help would be greatly appricated. Thank you for your time in this matter, Don Wallace

  • I recently tried flying FPV with a monitor and i think its a more pleasant experience than goggles. Definitely worth thinking about.

  • The first thing anyone should do is upgrade to some proper antennas. The basic "rubber ducky" ones that are supplied with many (all ??) tx + rx are next to useless. Well all tx need an antenna of some sort to prevent burn out, which is why its always advised to never turn one on antennaless. When you try something like a clover set, you will notice a remarkable increase in quality and range. You should be able to pick up a set from ebay for under $30.

  • Thank you all for your help, I will assume that the instructions are falsely advertising the use of fatshark goggle as it recommends them, by not saying you have to plug them in instead of using the goggle receivers.

Most Fatshark gear also has a cable. Just patch the 3dr receiver into the Fatshark gear with the RCA cables.

Fat shark 5.8 isn't the same as the 5.8 used in the 3dr kit.

ImmersionRC and Fatshark use a narrower band.

You can still use the 3dr transmitter, but you should patch into the googles using the supplied reciever, and not the built in Fatshark receiver.
