Drone Inspection on Live Power Transmission Wires...

Has anyone flown live power transmission wires? I have a potential job doing just that. The wires are energized at 138k volts. I was told that there is risk of interference from these lines affecting the control of the drone, does anyone know the "rules" on this? if it is true, and what the safe distance is to maintain?

I know not to fly between the wires for risk of breaking the air buffer, I just do not want to risk losing the craft to interference thanks.

  • With as many drone companies that advertise doing power line inspections I am surprised there is not more out there that I can find on this issue...

  • I would think the transmission lines will interfere with the compass due to their magnetic field.  If this happens, you may want to find out how to disable the compass.

  • i once had a GPS glitch flying oh about 20m above high power lines, but thats about it, no other issues and that was really an isolated incident
