Electronics protection

I was kind of curious about something and Im sure its been asked before. Sense there are all sorts of electronics that end up being exposed on your drones do you, or can you, cover them in some kind of way to protect them? I always picture my plane landing on some wet grass or maybe a little water ends up on my GPS or XYZ sensor board and causing a short and making me having to replace it only to think that some kind of precautionary measures could have been put in place. So what are the methods (if any) you guys use to keep your exposed (and expensive) electronics safe from the elements or other types of damage?

  • if you think you plane is going to be going for a drink or lost outside till the snow clears you can pot the electroncs, you can never realy get at them agian but if you plan ahead and do it right this might be a good solution for you

The sensors are pretty robust. I've dunked them (by accident) in the Bay a few times, with no ill effect. You just have to keep drops of water off the lenses because that screws up the readings. I keep mine on the top of the planes for that reason.

The other stuff, like GPS and Xbees, tend to be inside or otherwise protected.

The only problem I've had is dirt getting in the pitot tube. You've got to check it every now and then.
