Hello,
Please could someone tell me, how would an APM2 respond if the motor failed. Would the autopilot attempt to maintain the altitude and stall the aircraft, or would this be detected and the aircraft would glide to the ground?

If you mean Auto, FBW, RTL;
It will try to maintain cruise speed (you set in MP)
If the speed goes below, APM will push the elevator, so the plane can gain speed.
So in the end it will, let's say land. :)
Loose the esc and you usually follow the trail of smoke. :D
I was looking into using a brushless rpm sensor from eagletree to monitor engine rpm value. They sense from between the esc and motor. Then I can compare amps volts and rpms.
