Fail-safe Help

Is there a hardware or software solution to enable the use of a fail-safe with a 72mhz PWM system?

I have a Futaba 7C 72mhz transmitter, the radio can operate in either PPM or PCM mode. The fail-safe function only works in PCM mode.  As I understand it Ardupilot won't work with PCM mode.

Is there any way to work around this?

  • Any updates if it works or not? I have the radio radio system.

When I was recommending the Corona receiver, I was just recommending a 72 Mhz Corona receiver, not switching to their 2.4 "module". The failsafe is a feature of the receiver itself. It does not need some special signal sent by the TX. It will work with just about any 72 Mhz TX. When you set up the receiver it remembers the servo positions and uses those positions for default outputs if it looses the RF signal, so you go through the setup procedure with a throttle level lower than your usual off/idle throttle level.

As Chirs said, PCM or PPM are both internal protocols to the RC link, and have no effect on ArduPilot.

I am not familiar with what the issue with a 7C is, but as far as I know all you need to get the failsafe function to work is a receiver which you can set a particular (low) throttle value which it outputs which is lower than the usual range when the radio signal is lost.

Look at the Corona receivers. They are inexpensive, available with frequency synthesis and auto shift, and have this feature.

    Morli,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it wont work for the 7C :( After shipping I think I'd almost halfway to the cost of a 2.4ghz 7C

May be this will help in two ways. But it cost around 90$. I might be doing it for my 9ZWC2.
