Here is a video from a quick test flight today. It actually turns out that i live near the largest Aerial RC park in southern california the Balboa Park Airfield in Van Nuys let me know if anyone else flys there i would love to meet some local DIY Droners.

Here are my specs

Arducopter FC
JDrones Hexa Frame
880 motors
12" x4.5 props
Turnigy 9X
4s 5000mah

Im extremely happy with the performance! It is flying extremely sable the controls are very crisp. After some adjustments to the PID's it has smoothed out significantly from my first few flights. I tried to run the auto trim in my living room but i am still getting some slight drifting back and to the right not really sure how to get rid of this though.

Another problem I am having is that I am flying at about 15% throttle at all time this is a little concerning to me at higher altitudes because i am nearly having to cut the throttle to Zero to get it to descend. It took me about 6 minutes to get back to the ground after getting caught in some winds about 100-200ft up.

I know that part of the problem is that I have a heavy lift setup with the larger motors and props but is there a way that I could adjust this in the controller or the software? or should i just go down to the smaller props until im actually carrying a payload (DSLR) ?

Earlier i was having trouble setting up the flight modes with my Turnigy 9X and everyone was just telling me to fly the helicopter first, not that that is done i would love to get the flight modes working so I can begin testing the RTL and alt hold features.

All in all I have to say THANKS to everyone who has had a hand in developing this brilliant system, despite some experience with this hobby I still consider myself a noob but this heli has been so easy to set up and get into the air im sure i will have some snags here and there but everyone had done an amazing job at this is a true testament to the power of open source

Not sure about your radio, most better radio transmitters allow you to change the range on your controllers. I believe the term I heard used is expo.

Looks like you have rocket on hands with those specs. I bet when you punch the throttle it just shots up.

I have to admit the new code is amazing.

    Good luck,

  • Great videos.

I wonder. I fly a hexa using 750kv motors and 10x4.7 and soon 11x4.7 APC.  (a bit more heavier than your EPP props)

Many people told me 11x... would be way too big for my 110W motors and I should consider staying with the 10x...

What do you think?   How long can you stay in the air?

Did ever break a prop on you?
