First Time builder looking for advice

Hello, I'm a first time builder currently in the process of building a 3DR Y6 with jDrone 850kv motors & jDrones 20A ESC's.

Now my issue is placement and arrangement of my esc's, power board and bundles of wiring (what seems to currently be a mess or at least for my standards).

My question is, in order to help eliminate some of the wiring bundles which are a result of the jDrones motor wires being far to long in some instances bulking up, would cutting the motor wire down to a length that is more suitable/reasonable, have any effect on motor performance in any way or is there any other reason i'm currently unaware of?

Also does any one have any particular suggestions? Does ESC's or power board produce any substantial amounts of heat in which case i should place ESC's ?

Thanks in advance for all your help and advice!

    Hi Craig,

I suggest you join the Y6 group and have a look there.  A few people have commented on placement of parts and general tidyness. (:

In short though, you should be able to get the ESCs in between the top and bottom frame - they usually don't put out that much heat (i'm running the 3DR ESCs with 880kv motors).

You can cut the wires, it won't hurt performance, but just make sure that you reconnect the connectors properly - that's what's likely to cause a problem if anything.

    Cheers,

    David.

    • Thanks David,

I will most definitely check out the Y6 group!

Although electronics are nothing new to me, Drones are, and I'm hoping to learn more as I believe there is potential applications for my field of science research.

And perfect, I had placed them between the frame but in more of a rush situation and it was a rather bundled up mess piled in over top of the power board which i just didn't feel comfortable leaving in such a awful arrangement.

Better safe than sorry I feel in this instance...

      Thanks again.

      Craig.
