Flight without transmitter?

Is it possible to initiate a complete flight via Flight Planner without a transmitter? Setup a flight plan, and "do action"?

Or do i need to use the transmitter to ARM the APM. At the moment i cannot arm the board via flight planner even with joystick

Thanks!

  • This question has been asked so many times before, the answer is always the same.

Yes it is possible if you know what you are doing, but what happens if something goes wrong?

What if there is a solar flare and your GPS is no longer accurate. What happens if something comes loose on your frame and the vibrations cause your mag to saturate? For these reasons you should ALWAYS be able to regain manual control.

For this you will need a transmitter.

Would you climb into a cutting edge, ever developing opensource robot car and take straight to the highway, knowing that you would not be able to stop or take control of it if you wanted? I hope not.

Ok i admit that the above is a bit of a tired rant, and possibly a little melodramatic, but beside all of this you need to make sure that your airframe will fly in stab mode, because if it doesn't fly well in this manual mode it will never perform in the automatic modes.

If you want to try stuff like this  without the safety net, buy a DJI, then at least if something goes wrong you'll have some piece of mind that you at least have a company to try and blame. (but good luck with that, the DJI literature has a 'use at your own risk' and 'we take no reponsibility for your actions' notices on just about every page of their product manuals. And those machines are 4k +, and have have been commercially tested at huge expense.

Hope that helps you and others make informed decisions about the safety considerations when 'operating' an automated flying machine with big sharp blades for rotors.
