futaba t7c over Spektrum DX8

Hi newbie here looking for radio advice, does anyone on here have any advices on either of these radios for the Arducopter 2, I cant seem to make my mind up on these, I like the Dx8 because of the telemetry and additional channel but Futaba seems to have a bigger following HELP please.

Thanks

Neil

  • futaba 7c can selectively override channels thru the trainer port too. Thinking of building an add-on gadget for the port and override channel 5 - 7 via a small uc + buttens/switches. If I had the money for a dx8, i would probably go with that option.
  • Thanks to everyone for commenting. will probably go for a Spektrum DX8 turnigy is not so cheap here as in the States and it will be a pain to have it shipped over as everything in Spain from the US gets a canning here in Customs!!!

  • I really like the Dx8,  it's a very good radio system.  Although The Turnigy 9x is an awesome radio and you can't beat the price.   It's a very mod-able radio.  just don't plug the battery in backwards like i did.  it doesn't have a polarity protection curcuit,  Mine Tx went up in smoke.  i will be adding this polarity mod to my new Turnigy 9x.

Hitec could be a good choice and less expensive than Futaba. I'm using Aurora 9. This is one channel more and very usefull touchscreen. Do have telemetry as well in the 2.4 Ghz version. Give receiver voltage plus auxiliary voltage without added hardware.

It is easy to setup the dual switch for mode change (6 differents flight modes with two switches). The good news is that you do not wast a channel doing this mixing. Not always the case with other radios.

Here is the channels you'll need with an ACM2 multi :

    Ch1 - 4 : flight control (mandatory)

Ch5 : flight Mode selection (optionnal)

Ch6 : custom PID or special function (optionnal)

    Ch7 : Trimming helper (optionnal)

Ch8 : Free for custom use (optionnal)

Ch 9 : Free for custom use (optionnal)

When you have tried a radio with a touchscreen, you don't want to go back anymore.

If you dont need top of the line I suggest Turnigy 9X radio... $60 is quite cheap and with minimal effort (hack) you can get it to do a lot! You can put a backlignt, power it by lipo, install a firmware programmer, change the swithces or do nothing to it and use it as is... great radio for the price.
if you have the money to spend on a "real" TX then I cannot help you as I only have experience with the 9X :)
