Geo reference error

I am finding that my map on the Mission Planner does not reflect the true position of my APM board. Now this may be an error with Google Maps, rather than the Mission Planner or the APM's GPS (I'm using the Mega, ATM).

I'm just putting this out there for forum members, and with the hope Michael Oborne may be able to comment.

It is unlikely Google will adjust their Geo referencing at there side so my suggestion is that a Variation Distance be incorporated into the Mission Planner. This should have NOTHING to do with any navigation parameter or mission planning except to only adjust the Map to correct its positioning on the screen. For safety sake the adjustment should have limitations of say maybe 10 metres or so. I understand that the GPS has positional accuracy variations, but the map is on average off the mark.

While I don't want to jump on any safety band wagon, I would find more peace of mind while operating in tight locations, especially in Auto Land modes.

To try to verify this condition (to the best of my ability & resources) I flew the same mission 5 times with the 'copter landing in exactly (within 2 metres) of the same point but several metres of the set landing point. I find the error for me places the GPS position mostly to the East, but also slightly North of the position selected on the map. (I live in the Southern Hemisphere)
