GPS-lock takes a long time and severeal reboots

Hi all!

I am using an APM 2.0 with ardupilot 2.40 and a frsky module. I am having trouble to get a 3D-fix. It takes a lot of time ( more than 2 min max explained in the wiki )and I need to reboot several times before it gets signal. I amb flying on an open field without problem to get GPS signal on other devices such as my phone or laptop.

Any ideas??

I used to get 3D-Fix faster than now, so this is why I amb a bit surprised.

Cheers!

  • Can you post a picture of your setup?

I have experienced this problem myself.  On one occaision, it was with a new APM2 setup, and I had servo wires passing near/over the GPS module.  I moved them out of the way as best I could, and the problem went away.

Now with my APM2 with an FrSky telemetry Rx all-in-one (so built onto the board) it can take about 5-10 minutes to lock, but then is fine after that.

Your GPS is probably suffering RF or magnetic interfearance from other gear.
Remove *all* gear from the APM, and put the esc at a distance, as far away as you can, and put the APM outside and measure how long it takes to get a lock.

This is often the RX being too close to the GPS antenna. Cheap rx units often have circuitry that act as a transmitter.
