GPS / mag cable length limit?

Hi Folks, 

I want to extend the GPS and mag cables so that I can mount it on a arm of my hex. Is there a length limit? 30cm OK? 

Seeing as you cannot get a 5pin to 6 pin df13 (why oh why?) I'm going to splice them,  preferably into one cable. Any good reason this cannot be done?

    I don't understand why there are no 30cm cables (6 position to 5 position).  I really need some answers on this also.  I have no idea about the best way to even splice them to get 30 or so cm distance.
