Hey all,

i recently bough a cheap gps pole for my external gps and bluetooth (ublox) because

i wanted to change some things on my copter. Before i tear everything apart i wanted

to ask the community if there are really benefits from a raised gps and magnetometer.

Does it really improve accuracy that much being worth the risk of the raised position?

And is the magnetometer and the gps vibration sensitive? I think that the pole will vibrate

more than a mount on the mid tower would do ...

thank you so much

Andre

  • Raising the GPS is a huge improvement for my setup. I originally had my GPS on the frame but there was too much interference from all the other electronics. Once I raised up the GPS antenna I got a much better GPS lock during flight.

  • Andre, it is beneficial to raise the GPS if it does not otherwise have a clear 360 degree view of the horizon. This includes situations where the copter is tilted over in flight. If you make use of modes that require gps then you will improve your chances of getting better position information. It is also generally beneficial to have the magnetometer well clear of any high current wiring as this can significantly reduce interference. I gained significant improvements in performance when I started using a stalk. Unfortunately this is a rather prone structure and I have repaired mine a number of times...
