I've slapped the APM & Oil pan on the XAircraft X450 frame to test out this platform.  I initially tried to use the XA ESCs but later found out that was not possible so switched to some RCTimer 30A ESCs.  Those worked fine and I was able to run the setup and configure the craft.

I have 2 issues now after trying the first flight.

1.  The quad wants to yaw severely clockwise.  I have to hold probably 70% left rudder to get it to hold its heading.  It flies incredibly well but the yaw obviously is a huge problem so I'm trying to figure out what I missed.  The copter does have the mag and GPS on it and I'm hoping I set it up correctly.  I had an older Arducopter and remember having to calibrate the mag but I see that is done automatically now.  I'm in NW Ohio and my magnetic declination it said was "Negative" and the number it showed was 6° 48' W so I put in -6.48 for the value when the configurator asked me, although I'm not sure that is right.

2.  I have it setup to fly in X formation but it definitely doesn't pitch the front two motors down when I press forward.  It almost seemed like it was in + formation but I put in the x for X flight and it showed that in the CLI.  I tried using + just to see how it would react and that was weird too, so I switched back to x with no real success.  The only way I was able to get that stable flight that I talked about earlier was to use the carefree mode because I wasn't sure where forward truly was.  When I switched from + back to x I had almost 0 forward and back authority on my sticks but left and right worked fine.

It was getting late so I didn't get to play around too much, will do more tonight.

Just to verify I have the APM going the right way here is a picture.  Of course that picture was with the old ESCs and forward is between the two yellow arms.  Thanks!

  • Well, beeing a noob, I don't know if I will be able to help you, but here it goes : have you checked the ESCs (motors), are connected in the right sequence ? If x configuration, the front right will be connected to output 1 (CCW), front left connects to output 3 (CW), rear right connects to output 4 (CW) and rear left connect to output 2 (CCW). Also make sure you have your radio set to ACRO without any mix enabled. If you have it in HELI mode, it will have mixes active for sure. Hope I could help in any way.
