Help with OctoQuad configuration

Hi, any advice would be welcome. Had my quad x4 working fine then decided to upgrade to an x8 config. Is  there a way to configure it via the APM, I can only see the normal quad or octocopter options in the firmware menu? or can I only do it via a change/compile upload process?

    You should use 4 Y connectors and the quad software

    Ever concidered that.. ?

    You just load the normal quad, hex or octo firmware from MP, then go to Configuration/Level and select either '+' or 'x'
