Hexa design with 13" props?

Hello,

I have an ArduQuad, but I am interested in next building a Hexa for FPV and have been using Ecalc for modelling. I live in CO, high altitude and have found that via Ecalc, props sized in 13" and 14" return better performances (longer flight). See attached image. I know that Ecalc includes a kind of disclaimer like mutual funds do (past performance is no guarantee of future returns.... :)  )

The question I have is related to the use of these sized props, because it seems most other quads and hexa are using the 10 to 12" props, not much in the way of 13".

Just looking for more experienced feedback on a design.

Thanks

Mike

    Hi Mike,

I fly a few AP systems including ArduPilot Mega, I find that unless you are running the motor / props to lift a weight then over sized props have a negitive effect, so if you need to lift a 1 Kg weight or a 4 Kg weight make sure you hve the right prop size (thrust) for the job. The smaller props spinning faster seem to make for better flights than larger props turning slow. A large number of my customers report better flights when they drop an inch or some times two off their prop size.
