Ok guys I need a little help here, I'm beating my head against the wall with this problem.  I am putting together a Hexacopter kit from 3d robotics. I have a brand new DX8 transmitter to go along with it.

I have the copter put together and I'm having problems with the ESCs. I tried the automatic ESC calibration as instructed here, and had no luck.  My ESCs just keep beeping slower and slower then they get out of sync and then beep erratically.  So I tried the manual calibration for each one individually.  Which seemed to work but not as how it was described.  I plugged them in got two beeps, lowered the throttle down then I got one long beep and then nothing else. I tested each motor and was able to spin each one up.  I put the hexacopter back together plugged it back into the APM 2.5 and all it does is beep at me.  I can't seem to get the motors to arm at all.  I've got to be missing something, any ideas?

  • Okay, I have the exact same setup (3DR Hexa, DX8). I found that what i had to do was calibrate each ESC manually, and THEN do an auto calibration.

Only after doing those, one right after the other, did they sync up.

  • Any reason as to why the manual calibration of the ESCs didnt beep as described in the instructions?
  • Have you tried the CLI 'motors' test?  Getting into the CLI is discussed HERE.

When the system is right, you should get the '1,2,3...beep, beep, beep'  followed by a 'beep' after a few seconds. This tells you the APM has seen the ESCs. No beeping should follow after this.

I had a similar problem with my quad and found a wiring mistake. HERE is the discussion.

I also mention that the Spektrum must be set to ACRO mode in that post.
