Intelligent drone capabilities: flight path responding to remote sensor

Has anyone heard of or tested the following?

A drone that responds and adapts its flight path in accordance with a sensor attached to a moving person, vehicle or object that is nearby (say within 10 feet). In essence a drone that is capable of chasing and keeping a set distance.

If the person had a smartphone with GPS and WiFi, you could link that back to a laptop running MissionPlanner talking up to the drone and use the "Follow Me" function.
