  • Hi,

I am keen to start a project where a drone count cattles automatically and send report to the owners via some kind of app. If anyone has an idea on how to do it, please contact me via email: titombo et gmail.com or send me a private message on this page.

    Thanks,

  • Try using DotDotGoose which is an open source tool to assist with manually counting objects in images created by the American Museum of Natural History’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation (CBC). This purpose-built tool was created since most conservation researchers and practitioners working on counting objects in images were using software such as Adobe Photoshop and ImageJ which are not ideally suited for many conservation applications. The DotDotGoose user interface makes it easy to create and edit classes of objects to be counted and you can pan and zoom to accurately place points to identify individual objects. Information about objects can be stored in custom fields and this metadata can be exported for use in spreadsheet or statistics software. Point data collected with DotDotGoose will be very valuable validation data for any future efforts with computer assisted counting.

Download DotDotGoosge from https://biodiversityinformatics.amnh.org/open_source/dotdotgoose/ or it can be accessed directly on GitHub : https://github.com/persts/DotDotGoose.

If you have any questions about DotDotGoose please contact Peter Ersts: ersts@amnh.org

  • how do l go about it? do you by any chance have a specific tutorial to using imagej in counting cattle.

If the cattle stand out from the background, you could use a program like ImageJ and a plug-in to count the cattle. One of ImageJ's primary functions is to count biological cells on a slide, but you should be able to adapt that to count anything that shows up as a discrete blob.

Is there a software to count cattle?
Hi, Is there any software out there that can count a cattle head numbers? Like, I take a serie os pictures and put these pictures in a computer and…
  • Hello. can l please have the tutorial or procedure you took in using IMAGEJ  to count cattle. i am doing a similar project so your help would be much needed.

I'm testing a IMAGEJ a software that is used for cells and other microscopic components so I think its a good start. I could count 200 cattle with a margin of error of less than 4% the program is simple for simple images but it can be a pain in the ass when you get images much more complex. I'm trying to count trees right now because they;re nuch complex...

    Thats it

  • As I know it should be somewhere.

  • @g I have uploaded, via Wetransfer, an Ortho of Cows. Pls. check
  • @Dave Behr Our software is validated for feedlots; for pastures it is still in beta.  I attached a sample on a ranch.  Our website, www.quanterrasoftware.com, will be up within the next week (or less).  In the meantime, you can go to quanterra.wetransfer.com and upload sample images for us to process.

Quanterra takes the guesswork out of livestock inventory. Quanterra’s CattleQuants counts cattle in aerial drone images of feedlots with 99% accuracy.
