Is this normal? I don't recall this occurring in the past.

1) New GPS

2) New cables

3) Reinstalled firmware on Pixhawk for Y6B

4) Went through the wizard, then for good measure Calibrated Compass and Accel again

  • Looks like magnetic interference.

Is the GPS mounted near the flight controller or ESC or any other wiring or is it mounted on a mast?

    • It is a 3DR Y6B, so it is on a mast. This is (was) the exact same copter with over 100 successful flights and missions, after going through the learning curve of course.

It is simply a mystery why it is wondering on the map just sitting in the yard. It may have done that before but it seems like I would have noticed. Dozens of takeoffs were done just 20 ft. from that spot.

The copter will need one arm, a motor plate and possibly two motors (one is totaled). After looking at 3DR options, since motor plates are not sold separately (yet the arms are), I'm not sure what I want to do now. Maybe for $50 the Quad frame isn't looking bad except I don't know a X4 would handle the weight of a 6k mah battery.

If they offered the PDB I'd even consider going for the X8.

      • I  have a x4 with 630KV motors and 10x4.5 props and I run 5k mAh 4S 35C packs an there is MORE than enough power left to make it take off lick a rocket.

Check the link below to see what kind of magnetic interference you get

        http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/common-diagnosing-problems-using-l...

Also look at the HDOP value and check how many satalites is locked on

        • I was able to dig up enough parts to put it back to together today and run some tests before attempting to fly again.......maybe tomorrow I'll have enough nerve.

compassmot was 4% today, I don't have the other data at the moment, but it is all well within spec. I left the props in (for compassmot test) so it couldn't take off, armed and ran in stab mode. Obviously the alt was 0, so I flipped into RTL. I would think arming, starting in stab mode and going to RTL, if the alt is 0, wouldn't it just shut down and disarm? Instead, it went to 52A current draw as if it were trying to take off.

Can someone confirm RTL behavior if alt is 0 and has not moved lon/lat? What should it do? Disarm or take off? I turned off tx and FS worked; copter disarmed.

Even with hdop at <2 and 10-11 sats, the copter was still wondering around on the map. 3DR is baffled at this point as much as I am.

Anyway, I was looking at the T-Motor 2216-12 800kv motors for a Quad X4 build. E-Calc seemed to like it. What specific model motor did you get? How did you decide on 630kv?
