If your into programming then you can develop allsorts of creative programs to control your airframe. You should always leave a standard rx somewhere in the loop in case your computer crashes during flight as a simple reboot might not be enough depending what caused the crash.

but if you're already running a groundstation, then this is the ideal solution in every which way, because it gives you full control over the machine, you don't have to fork over hundreds of dollars for decent RC equipment and you can squeeze it all into a single radio link (no need to have multiple transmitters and watch out for intereference)
