I work daily on top of mountains. What will happen if the rtl position "home" us at the top of a hill, and when flying i drop into the valley below me. Will the quad just stop, as it thinks its altitude is below the tak off ground level didn't want to gamble with this. Also if it was below my feet, and i hit rtl, wull it know that its say 30m below my feet, and add that 30m tomy standard 25m rtl height. Or will it just rise up 25m from where it is and fly into the hill 5m below my feet. Thanks in anticipation.Dave

this is covered with the RTL_ALT parameter, which is the minimum altitude it must have before navigating back home. if youre flying below home and select RTL it will stay still horizontally whilst climbing to RTL_ALT (mine is set at 30m - "3000") and only when at this altitude begin the trip home.
i have always found this to be 100% reliable - the only thing to watch out for is gps errors when down in valleys with a poor view of the sky.
