Legal Radio Power limits - UK

Hi all

I'm putting together a parts list for building my first drone, and I'm a bit confused by the radio power legislation here in the UK.

Many telemetry and FPV modules being sold on legitimate sites seem to have Tx power far above the legal limit, for example this one claims 500mW - would I be breaking the law to own and use one of these?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks :)

  • As far as I know it would not be illegal to own one but it would be illegal to use it ;-)

this is a useful summary of the various frequency bands and the allowed power levels: http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/spectrum/information/licence-exemp...

One thing is interesting to note: Many people seem to think that having an amateur radio license would allow them to use higher powers (e.g. 1W @UHF etc). This is actually not legal for remote controlled model aircraft.

    • Thanks very much - that helps a lot :)
