I am a graduate student at CMU and out team is working on creating efficient navigation algorithms using point clouds. Unfortunately we are more inclined to software and controllers and have small electronics experience. Therefore I am writing to seek your suggestions for using a supplementary processor on board the arducopter. We want to use this processor to integrate and process laser range scans and thereby control the arducopter through the existing stabilization code. In essence what we will be doing is adding an additional loop for perception and situational awareness which guides the existing and efficient control loops of the Arducopter. Since the APM will not be able to handle the LiDar data and transmitting wirelessly might not be too efficient, what on board processor would you suggest we could use that will be easy to interface with the APM?
